Buddhist Literature
(1) Jataka - There are about 550 Jataka stories which are the stories of the former birth of Mahatma Buddha. These are written both in prose verse by Sinhalese monk.
(2) Suptta - Pitaka - In this literature. Sutta means sermon. sutta - pitaka is a (collection) of these sermons.
There are 5 Nikaya (collections) of this Pitaka:
I Digha Nikaya the "long" discourses.
II Majjhima Nikaya, the : middle - length" discourses.
III Sanyukta Nikaya, the connected discourses.
IV Anguttatra Nikaya, the numerical discourses.
V Khadaka Nika, the minor " collection".
